How many bars does a cocktail party need?
The right number of bars depends on the guest count, venue layout, drink menu, and pace of the event. For larger cocktail parties, multiple bar locations can help reduce lines and keep guests moving throughout the space. Bar placement is also important, as spreading service points around the venue can prevent congestion near entrances and other high-traffic areas.
How much food should be served at a cocktail party?
A two-hour cocktail reception needs 6 to 8 passed pieces per guest. If the party runs through a dinner hour with no seated meal, that rises to 10 to 12, and stations should be added so guests are not waiting on trays. Service should run every 10 to 15 minutes, with a heavier concentration in the first 45 minutes when arrivals cluster.
How long should a cocktail party run?
Two hours is the working standard and two and a half gives more breathing room when there’s a program, entertainment, or a larger guest list. Past three hours a cocktail crowd either sits down or thins out, and attendance typically drops by half in the final 30 minutes.
