Frequently asked questions
How do you light a stage so it looks right on camera?
A camera needs far more light than an eye does, and it needs it from the front. A presenter should carry a key light from roughly 45 degrees off center and above, a softer fill on the opposite side at about a third the intensity, and a backlight to separate them from the scenery. Faces lit only from overhead read as shadowed eyes on camera, which is the most common reason event footage looks amateur.
What does EMRG Media's lighting production cover?
EMRG Media designs the lighting plot, hangs and focuses the fixtures, programs the console, and runs the board live, tying lighting into sound and video so every cue fires as one.
What is color temperature and why does it matter at an event?
Color temperature describes how warm or cool a light appears and is measured in kelvin. Tungsten lighting is commonly around 3200K, while daylight-balanced fixtures are often around 5600K. Mixing different temperatures without planning for them can make skin tones, scenery, and branded colors look inconsistent, especially on camera. A coordinated lighting plan keeps the room and the recorded image visually consistent.
Can EMRG Media match lighting to a stage design or a brand palette?
Yes. EMRG Media reads the set drawings, places fixtures around the scenery, and matches color to the brand palette so the build reads correctly both in the room and on camera.
What is the difference between a wash and a specialty fixture?
A wash spreads even light across a broad area and does much of the foundational work in a room. Specialty fixtures handle more targeted effects, such as lighting a lectern, projecting a logo, creating movement, or adding patterns to walls and ceilings. Start by making sure the stage, speakers, and room are properly lit, then layer in effects that support the design.
Does EMRG Media light events for brands as well as institutions?
Yes. EMRG Media rigs and runs lighting for Fortune 500 brands, banks, universities, and media companies, scaling from a single panel wash to a full moving-head arena rig.
How long does it take to hang and focus a lighting rig?
Hanging is fast and focusing is not. A modest corporate rig hangs in 2 to 3 hours and needs another 1 to 2 hours of focus, which has to happen with the room dark. Larger rigs run a full day. Programming the console is separate again, and the cue-building session should happen after focus and before rehearsal, which is why lighting is usually the first crew in the room and the reason a late load-in compresses everything downstream.
